A » Inside 838 Hastings Boulevard.
[After finally feeling himself fade away, barely connected to the world any more, it's something of a surprise that he finds himself waking up here in a strange bed.

Waking. Up.

No, he doesn't sleep, he powers down. Waking up isn't the word for what he does. So why is this sensation so different and absurd? ( Read more... )

[welp he's just watched this newcomer amble around for a bit from his perch on a nearby bench, and after a few minutes of that he'll cup a hand around his mouth to call out to him.]

You look a bit confused. Try not to wander into the street, yes? The mess would be horrid. [the best welcome wagon]

[Whops, guess who's just walking straight into the middle of the street like he owns it?

This guy, and he's ignoring the stranger speaking for a bit before he realizes he doesn't understand something.]

What mess? [He almost asks what a street is before he recalls the word had come up in his reading a few times. The thing below his feet is a street, right? In the Japan he comes from, these things are all but covered in grass and completely unused. So what's dangerous about wandering out onto one?]

Why, the mess your organs will make when they're splattered across the pavement, of course. [hopping from the bench, he walks to the very edge of the sidewalk and balances on the tips of his toes for a moment.]

Don't they teach children to look both ways before crossing the street? [so says the rather small twelve year old]

[A laugh, you tell funny jokes for a little kid.]

Even if I had those, I don't see why that would happen. I've gone my whole life without getting a single scratch, thin air's not gonna do me in now.

[Seriously what are cars. Those things don't move right?]

I dunno, you're the kid here, you tell me. [He grins and keeps walking, moving closer to the side of the road, but not entirely off.]

[morgiana had learned on her first day that walking around was a tricky thing in mayfield, and this boy seemed too lost to understand these strict rules.

if he wanders into the road for too long, she'll wave him over quickly!]

He doesn't even look at her, but he does call back out.]

[Oh hi you have no eyes, I mean. Oh. Why is this guy talking to him?]

I'm not lost, I'm looking around. There's a huge difference there!

( ( Later, there will be a knock at the front door. Hello, it's your friendly neighborhood welcoming committee. So all Spain knows is that he's greeting someone's son-- Crow Figaro-- and the little blurb on the notecard he received mentions something about him being a troublemaker. Oh, he can't be that bad. Kids will be kids, you know?

Spain will knock on the door once more when he receives no answer and begin to yell, ) )

Aaaaay! Crow! Are you in there? Don't be afraid! I'm a friend, really!

[Voices and loud banging are enough to break him from that thought process and get his interest in who else is here in this weird place. Should he go to the voice that knows his... his name? He's pretty sure the only living person he's given his name to isn't around, so what gives?

Instead of leaving his room and looking for the front door where the knocking is coming from, he opens his room window and, seeing that this guy is the one making all the noise, calls out.]

Hey! How do you know my name?

( ( Spain looks around when he hears a voice. Huh, that wasn't coming from inside, was it? It actually sounds like the voice is coming from above-- Spain looks up, smiling at the stranger. ) )

Hola! Are you Crow? ( ( He waves a the index card above him to show it, ) ) Someone gave it to me.

[He leans further out the window, not even bothering to look at just how far down it is.]

Yeah, it's my name. Who told you? [This is super important okay!]

[Since against his will, the town has decided Karkat is popular, he's been yet again assigned to talk to a newcomer.

He thinks this is pretty much bullshit, but to be fair, he did meet Nia this way and she turned out all right, so at least he's not coming into this quite as angry as he did last time.

He knocks on the front door.]
