I had this same problem last year, and I did the cross the ankles thing, and you can fit that way, but DO NOT DO THAT EVER. I ended up with both of my knees bloodied from the shakiness of the ride banging them into the METAL handle bar in the front of the car. It would be fine if they took that stupid metal bar out, or put padding on it. I'm still going to ride it when I go, but I plan on taking some sort of cushion to place between my knees and the bar, such as maybe a hoodie or some other article of clothing. But, yeah, I just wanted to warn you, DO NOT EVER RIDE IT WITH YOUR ANKLES CROSSED. It hurts.
