Living things have the power to change people
When I heard that it was a true story, I was honestly shocked. The fact that there was no gate, the rules were not strict and that you were able to smoke in that prison surprised me. However, the story itself is not strange… flowers are living things too, so I think that they have the power change people. Because you are living, because you should be living, this kid (Colin) was unable to throw away the seed he was given. He is probably actually a very good kid. …This kid. Because he went to jail at the age of 18, and since then, for 10 years, he never opened up to anyone, never made friends and never thought of growing up. He was only conscious of the fact that he had committed a crime, and had the mindset that “I shouldn’t go out to the outside world”. But after he met Fergus, he realized that there were some things that he could do to… What I took note of as I acted was to make sure that I could properly show the audience Colin’s change in feelings. The scenes are short and the tempo is fast, so if I fail to express it, the scenes would go on without the audience being able to understand his emotional change. So I concentrate on that.
Presently, during practices, I face many walls (challenges). Acting is not easy. Even if it’s just one line… for example, the previous stage play “Wasurerarenai hito” contained a lot of man-to-man scenes so the lines were easy to remember, but when the number of people in the scene increases the timing to say the lines became more difficult, even if you had little lines. I wonder why? Also, I like a song played during the intermission, called Colin’s Flower. This time, the music (being played) is splendid too.
To me, green is a colour, and I’m in charge of it in Arashi *laughs* I like green, it’s calming. If people think that you suit the colour green, it’s honourable. For Colin… colour-wise, instead of green, he gives me the image of white. Lately, it’s called slow life, the process for the flower to grow from the seed which takes a long time, but you can only grow a seed slowly. From that (stage play) I hope for the audiences to carry a positive feeling. Of course it doesn’t mean that they have to feel that way, as long as they are touched by the stage play and had enjoyed it, as long as they felt something like that, I would feel that this stage play was worth doing.
