a very sad article

I have got to stop finding these depressing articles. Between this one and the exploding frogs... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7721095/?GT1=6542
however, I do find this discovery to be less-than-shocking. I mean, people can't help it, even when it is their own kid.

That is a brilliant, to the point, no nonsense article title:

"Are ugly children less loved?"

Oh and by the way, how would one sign up to be in on the group that gets to do this:

"The children's attractiveness was rated on a 10-point scale by the research team."

We need to be doing science like this at school.

"The researchers speculated that Darwinian behavior was responsible for the parents' actions. Pretty children represent the best genetic material and, therefore, get more attention, the researchers hypothesized.

Other experts disagreed, saying that there's no evolutionary reason for parents to favor pretty children over less attractive ones, the newspaper reported."

sounds to me like an influence of modern media and ideals.

But seriously, a bad parent is a bad parent.

And can a little kid be ugly? Aren't they all cute?

I have a disconcertingly large number of memories of being left to wander in supermarkets. Was I genetically inferior?!

I'd like to know what their definition of "ugly" was. Right now the experiment sounds like only a matter of opinion. But Nick is right. A bad parent is a bad parent.
