The cool thing about UCR's English department is they're really pioneers on this front, in terms of accepting films as "texts." All film classes are cross-listed as English classes...which is awesome, because it means I get to take a class on the Asian Horror film as an elective credit for my major. SUHWEET.
I was seriously disappointed at first when the title of the class changed from The Horror Film to Asian Horror: En/Gendering Ghosts and the Supernatural in Film...I pictured a whole bunch of snobby Asian kids sharing private cultural references and telling me to shut up when I spoke up in class because there was no possible way for me to know what the hell I was talking about, and the professor laughing at me for being the only white kid in class
