Yesterday I traded in my 2001 Hyundai Accent. Even though I haven't paid the Hyundai off, I had to do something. I had no air conditioning. No a/c this time of the year in the deep South is miserable. I work in the country and drive about 20 minutes to get to town. Not really too far. However, by the time I made it to town I was drenched in sweat. Lovely picture, I know. Plus, lately it's been raining pretty much ever day so I had to keep my windows rolled up. Miserable.
When I took my car in to find out how much it would be to fix the a/c, the mechanic quoted me $700. Then he told me that he would be glad to fix the a/c, but in a few months something else would go wrong and then something else. Basically, my car was falling apart. I've already had to get the transmission repaired and engine worked on and other things I'm not mechanically inclined enough to name.
Solution: It was time to trade her in.
I am now the proud owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. Well, not actually the proud owner. That would be GMAC. But in five years I will be the proud owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. I LOVE this car. She's quieter. A/C works beautifully. Awesome sound system with a CD player. The side speakers in the door work. In the Hyundai, they never worked. She drives smoothly. No more praying she'll make it up hills. I could go on and on about this car. Gas mileage is much better. Even has a little button that will show you what the actual MPG is as well as how many miles you have left before it's time to get gas again and it lets you know when it's time to get the oil changed. She's a beautiful car. Also, the passenger seat doesn't slip back.
Here's a pic of a Cobalt:
Mine looks almost identical, except she's Blue Granite Metallic (sort of a blue gray slate color that sparkles in the sun) and doesn't have a spoiler.
Problem is I don't know what to name her. My first car (an '89 Nissan 240SX) was Pandora because at the bottom of Pandora's Box lay hope. Since this was my first car, I knew I would bang her up to hell and back, but through it all there was hope that I would actually learn how to drive. Well, it made sense at the time. Named the Hyundai Jade because a) that was the name of the color and b) that was also the name of the main character in a story I was working on at the time. So, now, I have this new girl and no name. I've been going over all of Angelina Jolie's roles, but none of those names really fit: Lisa, Lanie, Sarah, Sway, Gia, Frankie, Lara .... Abby from NCIS doesn't fit. Sarah from CSI doesn't fit. Maybe this new girl is actually a guy and I can call him Duckie (NCIS). I don't know. This will drive me crazy. Such a small detail, but an important one in my book. Car has to have the right name.
P.S. Learning that if you work a 9-5, M-F job, Monday is the absolute worse day to buy a car. Then you have to wait a whole week before you can really go driving. Argh....
