So um yeah.....
in case you can't read that it says:
Dear Miss Mir,
You didn't win through to the National Poetry Anthology 2006. We had many thousand of entries, so don't be too disappointed.
But "Dusk" did reach the final selection stage, so it was recognized as one of the best entries this year. And to mark this fact we want to publish it in a book which we are working on right now. It will be ready for printing soon.
Half of me thinks, sure they send this to everyone who doesn't win. The other thinks, meh, who gives a fuck, you're published: awesome. Not the first time mind you, I have been published via poetry.com, but they are such a scam its unbelievable. On the level of scamming I would put Poetry.com at a 10 and the National Poetry Anthology at a 6, so I am working my way up. excellent.
People can rain on my parade, but I am proud of myself. woo hoo.
and here is the poem in question:
Dusk
Streaky strawberry coulis
stains the horizon.
Evening arrives
dampening the blaze,
smudging ochre flames across the sky.
Smoothing out the heat of the day
into the sooty purple stillness
that pulsates downwards.
Night. A hummingbird
hovering just above the
shoreline.
Never fully perching,
just keeping me hanging on.
I wrote it in December 2003, on the cruise, as the sun set :)
