It takes Lyla a moment to answer and when she finally does, she’s gripping the rail alongside Blair. “He wanted more than I could give.” Blair doesn’t understand; her mistake has always been loving her men too much.
“Do you still love him?”
Lyla smiles, but it’s filled with longing and regret. Blair knows that smile - Dan wore the same one the day she broke his heart. “Jason was my first love and Tim was the love of my life, but I needed more than love. He just needed me.”

Thanks so much! I'd been wanting to write something like this for a while and I'm glad I finally got it together. I was a big Lyla/Tim fan during FNL's run, but their break up was beautiful. Lyla found her wings, but Tim struggled under the weight of his. Love just wasn't enough, not when it would suffocate her. It ended naturally, not because of a third party, but because the original partners changed. I watch "Stay" every now and then and it's always, always a beautifully written and acted episode.
