Oh, John Irving... yes, I read "A Prayer For Owen Meeny" (or however you spell the last name) in 9th grade and I was traumatized and exhilerated at the same time. I like how he played with the idea of fate and divinity rising from the dirt, in a war-stricken modern era that gave him license to explore sexuality... I think that the Dame in Red became an anti-idol for me -- I would love to have a regular venue of my own, but the secret personality thing sounds like something that would be only too easy for me, which frightened me ( ... )

well, first, your piece would never be rejected (or accepted) just because an editor doesn't like you... its not how we roll!

yeah, those types of things were the paths i was thinking of going with. what do you think of it so far? granted its not that much... and the transition stuff around the "lucy's fovortie color is blue" is to choppy/ and thats becausei added in a sentence after i had alreayd written it which kinda messes up the flow... but besides that? should i just give up as a writer?

I know, I know, but I still wouldn't want to corner her because I'm uber-obsessed with being honorable and all that. So anonymous it is. If in fact I do submit anything.

Don't give up! Whatever you do, don't give up. That's the surest way to never achieve your dreams. And you're writing is good! You have a distinct voice that I think is trying to show through here, and I rather like the choppiness because it emphasizes the ordinariness (or lack thereof) of your character. Sometimes flow can be interrupted on purpose! No, you're right, it isn't much, but you always start from the beginning! And at the beginning, it always seems like nothing (unless you're compulsive like me and have to finish something once you've started it or else you'll get bored with it and never work on it ever again)...
