"She's too good for you," Atsuko commented, rummaging through the contents of her handbag. "Did you take all my cigarettes, by the way?"

"Go lie down until you're sober." Yuusuke sat down, pulled the sneakers on his feet, and began tying the shoelaces. "And no, I didn't take any of your cigarettes. What do you mean, Keiko's too good for me?"

"Case in point: you're going to the pachinko parlor, aren't you? She's not going to like that - you running off and leaving her behind on a regular basis - but she'll try to put up with it. That's what I mean."

"So I'll take her with me every now and then. Big deal."

Atsuko tossed the handbag at the table, where it landed with an undramatic thump. "Also," she said, "she's going to confiscate your cigarettes. And she may not even want to go near a pachinko parlor. Did you think of that when you asked her to marry you?"

"Did you just get ditched? What's with all the pessimism?"

"No, I didn't just get ditched, thank you. I'm actually asking if you didn't get carried away, like you normally do."

Yuusuke shrugged and climbed to his feet. "She knows what she's going to get into. So do I." He suddenly grinned. "And obviously you don't know me at all if you think I can't keep my personal belongings safe."
