Oh, well, its a very important aspect for a Mage's development to make Probationary contracts. It's basically a deal between a Mage and a... well, anyone really. The mage offers some of their magic to their partner, usually in the form of a weapon. The partner acts to protect the mage while he casts Magic.
He's without any partners here in Manhattan.
*Giggling nao* Well... back at school he had this habit of sneaking into girl's beds to cuddle. Due to his living with his sister at home... anyway, I was just wondering if he continued that practice here.
A mage without a probationary contract would be at a severe disadvantage. While Negi is above par when it comes to combatants at home, proper support from a good collection of Ministra Magi would be at a severe hindrance.
At home he has... seven partners. None are here. It's a value to both you and him to do this. You get an artifact with some power or ability to aid you, but its lost if Negi dies. So it'd would be good for him as people need him alive.
There is no downside to it. *Evangeline smiling sound*

[Yeah, she's choking over here. Give her a minute] Does he what? No! We just share an apartment!

Just gotta draw a seal on the ground and a small ceremony.
You just need to kiss Negi, and no wasting time kissing him on the cheek, those cards never work.
