My recollection is that glucose of 97 before dinner is fine--why are you thinking it's not? That would high end normal for first thing in the morning, though.

FWIW, in-pregnancy (when they want you to be really normal and not just okay) fasting target is under 90, 95, or 100 depending on the doctor. The 1hr post meal target is 120-140, again depending.

(Also--if you find yourself spending a fortune on test strips, you might consider the Walmart's reli-on prime with test strips at $0.18 each.)

oh, i had no idea what a good range for glucose after 4 hrs fast would be, i just pulled an assumption out of my ass... :) my last two blood tests after overnight fasting, both within the last 6 months, have had glucose at 102 and 94. i was assuming that after 4 hrs glucose would be significantly lowered already, so 97 seemed high, especially since i'd eaten few carbs.

(I was the anonymous). I don't really know for sure, either, because I'm not normal. And pre-meal sugars are not something I was told to check, so I really only check them to see if I have room to eat.

Carb restriction doesn't have much noticeable effect on my fasting sugars. (But I'm weird in many ways.)

You are a better woman than I for actually testing bloodsugar/ketones. I'm curious, but I'm such a freaking chicken about pricking my finger. :-P

the lancet actually makes it really easy! you just load it and put it against your finger and press the button. of course i don't have any needle fear. :>

I think I'm going to give my current strategy at least a month, maybe 6 weeks, before I even bother trying. If things are otherwise working, I feel like it would just give me an extra number to worry about.
