I should be working on my thesis... or my fic... LOL I'm getting distracted (no spoilers, and i don't claim this to be a good review, bc i just RAMBLE then POST SORRY!! X-O.)
The art style looks great, but it sounds like the story is what will get me. All I needed to hear was the word spy. I am a sucker for a good spy drama or covert operations story. Keep me posted on if things pick up later. Is it a TV series or an OVA?
I felt the same way as you did when I picked up... last spring was it? Period pieces are either hit or miss with me. I did love the first episode (and the accented Chinese XD;;;)... and then it got really random. It sort of comes around, but I guess I don't understand the politics/history as much as I should to have probably properly enjoyed it.
I guess I like Aoi quite a bit, but things didn't develop as far as I would have hoped. I mean I guess if I were given the choice to either recommend or not recommend, I would recommend it. I do remember it being the lower half of my priorities of things to watch (although I must say, last spring was AMAZING, b/c it was when FMA, Drrr!!, Arakawa, Maid-Sama, and a whole bunch of other things were ongoing).
Yeah I agree with you, but I would say, depending on the person, "not recommend" the series, but "recommend" on episode 1 :p If people want a good period piece, something like Baccano is a good one that straddles the period era and yet focuses on the characters and plot very well. Although it's hard to say, Baccano set the bar pretty high for me :p
It is unique though, just got so random. Ep.4 was fun, but it threw off the whole mood and the whole story. It did nothing for the series, even though it was cute. There was one episode of all history, and the characters did not show up at all. That threw off the pace of the series as well! So, I think it could have been maneuvered better, because it felt like the director wasn't sure which way to go with the series. It does have much potential though, especially the setting (Oh i drool on such unique setting!)
Oh, and yes. That season was great! I still have to watch Maid Sama.
Hmm...I may have to check that out. The art in the trailer on youtube looks really good. I've really been looking for a new anime series and, oddly, I really have been sort of craving something with 1930s (pre WWII) styles. I never got into historical animes like Kenshin before, so we'll see if I can get through the historical parts. I wonder if it's streaming anywhere...
well, if you want 1930's, go for baccano instead. I watched the rest of this and its the same feeling. I also watched the special, and it was meh. I don't know if it's streaming, though knowing how everything is hosted somewhere, maybe it's out there. Just a bit of hunting to do bc its not as popular as stuff like bleach or naruto.
btw, con pics are being put up on fb. i'm locking it and hopefully i did it correctly.
