Some "Merlin" musings...

I've been thinking a lot about "Merlin" lately and my own, previous involvement with the Arthurian legends.  I was in a European Mythology course last year, and before that I read The Mists of Avalon back in high school (and loved it), and was a bit obsessed with "The Sword in the Stone" as a kid.

I keep trying to get into Merlin, but I'm just not able to get past the anti-source-material show canon. Despite the contradictory nature of the stories and legends themselves, I just can't see Merlin as Arthur's contemporary instead of his mentor, and I can't see Uther as anti-magic when he used it at Arthur's conception.

I've tried because I love the actors! Darned brain. :/

I agree, though - I'd much rather see Gwen as a royal.
