Hello! ^.^' Poor livejournal, so neglected. I think it's time for an update, don't you?
This is all gonna be about school, of course. Well, mostly. Life at AIW has been interesting for me the past couple quarters. But first....
This is my final from my Sculpture for Animators class. I'm quite proud of him. He's the best of four sculptures that we had to do. The assignment was to take a mythical creature/character/etc and bring it into the 21st century. I chose a hippocamp: quite literally a sea horse; and made him into an olympic swimmer. More views in the scrapbook. So much hard work went into this silly creature.. I got so frustrated with it at one point that I quite literally threw it against the wall and had to redo some junk. e.x But Ms. Brew really saved him by giving him a neck. Also, you can't see in the photo, but I used an old watercolor brush to add horse hairs on the top half. This project saved my grade, and is my pride and joy. Also prolly gonna end up being a portfolio piece, along with my head, which I will post when her hair is fixed (again..)
And this is one of two tutorialed (by professor of course)/follow-along projects that I did in my Intro to 3D modelling class. It's a sword.
This is the second project, the doughboy of Pillsbury. :P Not bad, if I do say so myself!
And this is a bunneh. The first project we did on our own. It was supposed to be referenced from Thumper from Bambi... but I took it in my own direction. Naturally, the bunny is purple... of course?
In addition to the sea horse, we did sculptures of our heads doing a funny expression (my was yawning), action figure personas (i.e. Superman as a ballerina, The Punisher as a housewife was mine), and Sulley of Monsters Inc personas (I had Were-Sulley). All were incredibly time consuming, but rewarding once they were finished. I learned a LOT in sculpture. I honestly think it's helping me in my 3D modelling class this quarter. I also have my first animation class. It's pretty interesting - a lot of new principles to learn. I'm looking forward to when we can finally do 3D animation. That's a couple quarters away, Spring 09 at the earliest. My skills are improving, and I'm finding out where they lie, and where I should focus them on.
It's been a full year since I started at the Art Institute. Considering I next to no skills when I started, and looking at where I am now, I just hafta say, "WOW." I would never have thought I could do the things I've done a year ago. I'd laugh at the idea. I don't think about what I can and cannot do anymore - I just do what's asked of me, because we have to. And if I can put in a bit of me along the way, even better. It's exciting! In a matter of time I'll be able to take game modelling, texturing, level design, scripting.. the list goes on. I'm looking forward to what I can make. It makes me not worry about being able to get a job, just being in the current project's moment.
I've also found that I like Art History. It's actually really interesting. I'm kinda sad, because this quarter I've got the last history class... I almost wanna take em all over again! I've had the same professor throughout, and she really knows her stuff, and puts her spin on it. Ms. Garen is an excellent teacher. I think someday I'd lake to go back to school and major in art history. It'd be nice to put on my resume, and it would make me happy.
Some big news... I'm moving! Not out of the area.. just out of the house. I'll be moving over winter break, after New Years. The parents have bought a plot in Silver City, NM. As such, they want to build on it, but before they can do that, they hafta sell this house. And before they can do that, they hafta do some serious renovations, with me, brother and Scooby out of the way. I'll be moving in with my brother. I have my eyes set on a particular condo, which hopefully won't sell until Dad figures out what the budget is. It'll be an adventure.
Once again I'll be volunteering for the Democrats at the polls on November 4th, at Hayfield Elem. I'm looking forward to the end of this election. I'm hoping to all the higher powers that Obama will be elected, otherwise the U.S.A will be up shitcreek without a paddle. Of this I am sure.
I'm working on a cartoony shark dressed as an English Gentleman in 3D modelling right now. I can't wait til it's done! :D
It'd be nice if I actually updated on a more regular basis. We'll see if that happens.
