lbangs and I are planning to head down to Austin for Labor Day weekend. I guess we're doing all this too on-the-fly because I can't find a good place to stay. By good, I mean available, centrally located, under $175 a night, and not a big stupid chain. Does anyone know of some place? The two boutique hotels/motels we liked are booked, and the B&Bs are a

If you decide to attempt Austin again, you MUST stay at the Austin Motel. It's absolutely great, but it does tend to book up fast (if you want to stay there during SXSW, you literally have to reserve your room two years in advance).

That was our top choice, but they were totally booked. Hopefully next time.
