I spend at least an hour in the library every day.. before I start work, it's a great place (the only place) to go for free internet to do things like this.

Well, since the stranger is about 90% likely to be a jerk to you, I'd just start with "Dick, can I help you with something?" or in the case of a female customer "Hey bitch, here is your paperwork to fill out.."
