I almost forgot. One of the previews preceeding Waking Life was for Shallow Hal. I think I've seen that movie previewed on at least half of all the movies I've rented in the last few months and it offends me just a little more on each viewing

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying this. I did not see the movie, but the ads have the same effect on me. I once saw an old movie with Ricki Lake (can't remember the name, naturally) wherein her dream man falls for her not because of her weight, not despite her weight, but simply because she's a neat person. Imagine that. I'm very much into fitness, and I opened and owned a women's only health club for four years because I saw how overweight women were treated at other clubs, and it sickened me. I wanted to have a gym where women of all shapes, sizes and ages could feel comfortable (or at least more comfortable than at Gold's).
Great. Now I'm all fired up. :/

There was a big article about fat-suits being the new black-face in the issue before the last issue of Bitch. I wanted to applaud.
I heard the ending too but don't think it's enough to redeem the movie at all. To cleanse your palate I'd recommend "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

Gah! I'd forgotten about that movie for a moment - but yes! I just love Hollywood's depiction in general of unattractive women - the cardigan, the glasses, the fat suit, the stringy hair. And boy I just wait for the moment they whip that hairpin out of the bun and become Julia Roberts.
I liked Bridget Jones' Diary but I thought the fuss made about how brave Rene Zel. was for gaining 15 or 20 lbs for the role was retarded.
I'm going to search out that back-isuue of Bitch for the article. Thanks for the movie recommendation - I'm putting that on my list.
