Food Post (and German Wicked)

Dec 10, 2007 11:57

Yesterday was the German Christmas Festival in Kitchener, Ontario. I always loved going to the German Festivals when I was younger because of the music, goodies, and best of all, FOOD!

Apple Fritters, Plum Cake, Potato Pancakes, Sausages and Sauerkraut, Pretzels, Spicy Wine, Waffles, Pulled Pork, Schnitzel on a Bun. . . YUM!

*laughs* I have no idea where anybody even GOT the mustard. The pretzel place wasn't giving it away, but when they got their pretzels, the Berliners immediately pulled mustard out of nowhere 0_o

Thus proving my theory that EVERYTHING IS BETTER IN GERMAN. I don't much like Wicked either - partly because I am so tired of hunting through people's trading lists for Elisabeth stuff only to find they are Wicked-obsessed! But mostly because the premise really annoys me. I don't think taking a fairy tale and turning it upside down so that the villain becomes the hero(ine) makes it automatically Deep And Meaningful - it was a clever gimmick a couple of times and now it's just pretentious. Also, the music sounds like Disney, for goodness' sakes. And not the good Disney. But it does sound better in that clip. :)

Speaking of Elisabeth, I have just got my hands on the 10th Anniversary Concert video. I can't do anything with it until I go to my family's house for Christmas, but I could upload it then if you want it. :)

I think that you've managed to perfectly summarize my feelings towards Wicked. I've tried so hard to like it, and I've watched videos from different versions, but I always come out feeling dissatisfied. The fandom takes it so seriously as well! It really made me hate Broadway for awhile.

I think what I like about the German version is how much emphasize they ensemble. I can block out the story and stare at the pretty dancers! The beautiful choreography at the beginning really strikes me as more 'Elisabeth' than 'Wicked'

OMG! I can't believe you managed to get your hands on a copy! I would be SO grateful! Also, was there anything else on my list you wanted? I haven't updated it in awhile, and I have a few new files. . . I can try to get it up-to-date this week.

Well, I'm still mad for any Elisabeth vids, particularly anything with Máté and Lukas or Uwe and Jesper... and I've a passing interest in video of Glockner von Notre Dame and the Dracula with Jesper and Drew Sarich. Mostly I'm still on my epic quest to get hold of Essen with Uwe and Jesper. :) I got the 10th Anniversary video from someone who very generously gifted it when I inquired about trading. I haven't watched it yet as I am waiting for calliope85 to get back from a trip (to Germany, ironically) so we can share the squee. :D

That reminds me, did I ever manage to give you the Essen vid with Jesper as Death? I know I meant to, but you were moving countries at the time and I can't recall if I did so later. If not, I'll upload them both over Christmas - I don't hold with all this exclusivity in trading. ^_~

.... what IS Lukas wearing in your icon??

There has to be! I found out about this one by listening to the radio; they usually aren't advertised so heavily.

And the food was delicious. I've been living off of TV dinners for the past month, so I know how you feel.

And I go through KFC and McDo's binges as well. Then I'll hit a piece of cartilage in chicken or a hair in my burger and I can't eat any of it for a month ;_;

Her voice is really strong. I had heard Pia do the initial concert, and her voice didn't sound quite right for the song. This one sounds perfect, though.

Do you know anything about her? Has she done anything else yet?

Wow, a lot of food :))
Do you like German food? For me it's too fat, I mean the traditional one. And the same with Czech. I like these countries but not theur food :)

In Canada, our food is VERY VERY fatty. We have a lot of grease and fried foods. As a result, German food seems very light in comparison.

Canadian food is very bad though. I remember when I was in France, I thought it was very healthy but the people who came from other countries thought it was horribly heavy.
