I like political discourse.  It's nice to see both sides of the story and go out and learn a few things you really can't find out elsewhere. But seriously. People need to stop with the socialism shit. No, seriously. Read this article and think before you say "Oh that's socialist. I don't want my country to be socialist at all!" It questions the ( Read more... )

Well that's just it, most people don't really know what socialism means, and most people don't realize that many of the institutions that already exist are socialist programs. Scare tactics work really well when people have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah unfortunately you're really right, people are scared because they don't know the facts. There was a journalist that went on Real Time a few weekends ago that said the Republican party used to be the party of ideas, now it's reduced to the party of negativity and name calling without any ideas to offer at all. For once, I'd really like to hear what they have to propose to change the health care system instead of this crap.

Ok, so, nutshell.

McCarthyism made Communism a horrible, horrible way of life, because it's what the Russians did. Stupid Pig-dog Americans bought into that. Socialism was explained to be a secret code word communists used to refer to communists without being outright about it, so... socialism is horrendous.

Republicans, knowing most of the country is a bag of idiots, are simply re-stirring this pot.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The unfortunate part is most people in this country take the media as truth without looking into it themselves. Politicians know this and know how to use it to their advantage to cause panic/fear. A majority of Americans are against anything that sounds like change without understanding anything but what the media tells them -- in other words they let other people tell them how to think and feel about situations/issues. It's sad.
