I have officially giving up on reading "Their Eyes Were Watching God" and resorted to reading sparknotes... i dont usualy like to do this, but i feel like Ms. Welty has given me no other option since this is such a shitty book. (no offence to anyone who actually liked it. it is just not my style)

No, its neither of those reasons. She hated it because it sucked. Ebonics is not a language, and it was never meant to be written down on paper for people to remember. Honestly, there is no substance about a book that basically follows a bunch of nobodys build some podunk town in the middle of the fricken swamp. If you want to read something written in a dialect that is unreadable by anyone except a select minority, check out some of my journal entries that I've written after a few drinks- that'll keep your ass busy for a damn long time
