That makes me terrified that even the author is so invested in fanboying Tyrion even he hasn't realised what he's turned him into. It also kind of throws out the 'he intended to write him as an awful person' type theories. Or implies some pretty strange aspirations for GRRM. I'm not even sure which of those creeps me out more.
Yes, it's weird to want to be a character that feels like one big defence-mechanism made flesh. When people saw Tyrion in me during the sorting at westerosorting I assume it was entirely based on my worst qualities.
Or as my husband put it "if I aspired to be an arrogant asshole, at least I'd pick Jaime so I'd be pretty."
Is it the brothels and the drinking he dreams about or what?
I'm not sure I want to know. But I am starting to wonder how many pretty and popular girls refused to date him, back in his high-school days... /snark
This also confirms all my theories about the popularity as Tyrion the nerd-fanboy-insert character. *sigh* I mean, I do get the appeal of identifying with the underdog (*cough* there may be some id reasons why I fangirl Brienne so much *cough*), but it makes me quite resentful when the underdog turns into some ginormous jerk whose screw-ups we are simply supposed to forgive because no girl has ever loooooved him enough.

Yes, that POV is so screwed up. One of the Swedish magazines I read had a whole issue dedicated to nerd culture and the blind spots of the average nerdy guy who has spent his whole life being resentful towards the girls who never loved him enough, failing to see that no guys ever loved the geeky D&D girl either - in fact, chances are she wasn't even visible to them.
And yeah, Brienne. Oh, Brienne. ♥ She's my kind of underdog, too.
I thought of you when I read the Cersei chapters, btw. I want her to burn them all with fire. In the next book, I want her to return to Casterly Rock and be her father's daughter and greet any special Targ snowflakes about to invade with steel and fire. "This is for the slut walk, FUCKERS!"
Book Sam or TV Sam, I wonder? Either one is a better person than Tyrion. I'm only about 250 pages in, and Tyrion is irritating me beyond belief, to the point where I want to skip his chapters.

And yeah. Sam is kind and in many ways much braver than Tyrion. Is it the brothels and the drinking he dreams about or what?
