So the monthly theme over at valyrian_forged is non-nobles and recently I stumbled upon someone who thought Tyrion treated Shae "far better than she deserved" so I had to write fic.

This is Shae's story and not bloody Pretty Woman, so references to non-explicit non-con appear | 1830 words | R for themes and language | Shae/Tyrion (of sorts) Everyone laughs at

It's really, really great to get Shae's side of the story, and I love the way you've told this, in interludes and flashbacks. I especially like the echo between the Varys vignette towards the end and the one with her father, and the way Shae and Tyrion both have lives damaged by fathers who lost their wives (and how Tyrion's experience, while certainly tragic, is not the worst way something like that can play out), and the contrast between Shae's thoughts on Tyrion and Cersei and between the way she is with someone she genuinely cares about, like Moira, and Tyrion and all the rest.

Thank you! I have this urge to always defend these characters, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think about how Shae is seen in some corner of the fanbase. I'm glad it worked for you!

Oh god. Oh GOD. That is haunting and depressing and bitter and absolutely perfect, and it summarizes everything that bothered me about Shae's characterization, and it finally does her justice.

Here via munditia again, and wow! I love how real your Shae sounds; you've taken the little scraps in canon and turned her into someone truly tragic, as broken as Tyrion in her own way but fully cognizant of that brokenness.
