Weeh for discovering things about your own country! I've felt a bit like that working here. It's like a different universe. Damnit, can't escape the camera face! >_< Having Russia as the only "proper" border country (with a border that stretches the entire length of one side, that is), the influence on the areas close by really are noticeable. Just things like street-signs being in Finnish and Russian rather than Finnish and Swedish, the shops so obviously catering for Russian tourists; these were the main things I noticed.
As for the nature, it really is pretty! And probably would have gotten prettier the further north one goes. And I sort of finally saw the connection with Salpausselkä (the ridges), how it stretches across the country. The suddenly changing geography on the ridge in Lohja/Nummela that's always fascinated me with it's lake-landscape suddenly felt logical when I saw how it continues and shapes the landscape ^_^ Err. *geography-gasm*
