In the star wars movie Return of the Jedi, the emperor had this black squiggle on his hood. In the film version, the contrast made it so no one noticed it. I guess maybe George Lucas didn't like how the light was falling on his hood so he had them color in a little black squiggle over the reflection in every frame. However when it got transferred to video, the contrast was such you could see this squiggle move around the outside of his hood. Many people began to refer to it as The Emperor's Caterpillar.
