I'm not sure how serious you are about the idea of slipping this girl some fruits and veggies, but I think it's a bad idea (and kind of idealistic to think that her grades would improve because she ate an orange or apple or stalk of celery). It could show favoritism. It could be construed (by her) as kind of condescending; you saw what she was eating and decided *for her* that it wasn't good enough. I don't know- it just doesn't seem like a great idea, although I really do understand the desire to help her.
What about, if instead of slipping her some fruit once in awhile, you brought in a class treat? Put together a fruit and veggie tray or something because then everyone gets an opportunity for some extra vitamins and fiber in their diet and you are helping her, as well. Oh. Wait - make sure health codes allow it, as well.

Seriously, though, yeah, you're right. The best I can do is offer to be an influence and if she decides to let me be one, great, and if not, well, then at least I haven't intruded and presumed. And don't apologize for long comments - I like them!
