Introduction - Lillie Langtry

I suppose this would be the proper place to introduce myself, but I will trust most to know of me already at least a bit. I am Lillie Langtry, born on the island of Jersey in 1853, and as for my life's accomplishments I will tell of those later. For the moment I could simply ask .. what is it you wish to know?

My great-great aunt was Sarah Bernhardt. Did Lillie Lnagtry and Sarah know each other, personally or professionally?

We knew each other professionally and personally, my dear. Darling Sarah was most of the reason I became so known on the stage. We were more than acquaintences, and far more than friends.

As you have time, I'd be interested in more about Sarah and Lillie. Sarah was a shadowy memory in family stories. However, my grandmother, Winona Bernhardt Ravenscroft, remembered her fondly from her childhood.

Sarah was exquisite, though many would have other words for her sharp tongue and dark eyes. We shared many an evening together, usually in the comforting splendor of the house my husband dared to call a home, and it was she who bestowed upon me the gifts of acting and the skills of the trade of the theatre. I could not have loved her more if she had been the sister to me in the family of brothers I had known all my life.
