1152x864 The picture is my attempt to imitate a design style that I've seen too many times in Japan. I've seen illustrations done in this style in magazines, postcards, mail-order catalog, Kimoto on-line store web page... they're everywhere. Who was the first person that came up with this style anyway?
I started this drawing at 9 this morning and finished at around 6, but I went out for lunch and groceries, thus it wouldn't have taken me more than 7 hours to finish. And I hardly do digital art. (For graphic manip software I only know how to use photoshop, but still everything under the "filter" menu is greek to me. That's how illiterate I am.) Perhaps that's why illustrators like to draw in this style - it's easy, fast, and the end-product is quite eye-catching.
It's almost the end of the Golden Week. I spent most of my time doing random chores; rearranged all my books (so many books! And so many of them I want to keep! What to do?), put away all the winter clothing, took futon to coin laundry, researched lesson planning for kids under 12, wrote to friends, and drew. It's nice outside, but the town is cramped full of tourists and I hate to fish for parking space. Also bought concert tickets for Coldplay and Tamaki Kouji. I plan to do some travelling in Japan after Summer Comiket, probably to Sapporo. Hope it's not a bad time to visit Hokkaido after obon.
