Reveal

So the hd_holidays reveal is up. Here's my offering to this year's hd_holidays:

Unrequited (H/D, G) - 9 pages of comics, b&w

Commentary:

Pluses:
+ I've always wanted to have a story like this realized - whether it's by myself or by someone else. Not a story with Draco being emotionally helpless, but a story where a single theme (i.e. water) presents itself in different forms and time-space, each time carrying different symbolic meaning. I saw this being done in a Japanese manga (the Downtown series by Ito Seiko) possibly +10 years ago, and I have wished to create something similar since then.

+ I also wanted to make the story ambiguous but not cryptic. I was worried that I didn't tell the audience enough information, but judging from the feedback received it seemed that some viewers got the story, which is a huge relieve. I'm glad that my story-telling technique has somewhat improved over time.

Minuses:
- I debated about the plausibility of Draco letting a Mudblood fuck AND pester him. It sounded funny even to myself. I went with this setting because (1) the perfect Harry-substitute has to be somebody outside Hogwart; and (2) in order to tell the audience that the guy isn't Harry in that one speech bubble, the person can only be a Squib or a Muggle-born. Draco became a bit too desperate to my taste. If I could redo the story I would work on that. Oh btw, does that Muggle-born sound like Gary-Tu? Maybe it's my subconscious mind. *pets Draco*

- The art style is not new to me. Working in a style so familiar means learning nothing from the experience. I want to say I'll try a new style in the next round, but I'm not sure if I could come up with something new at that time.

Neutral:
0 Water is a difficult subject to draw. I like how the bubbles and the water puddle at the last scene have turned out. I don't like the ripples. Should have done more research.

0 Comic is still a medium not being widely accepted, and I highly doubt that my audiences are all familiar with Japanese comics. As the story and the way it's presented might not be everybody's cup of tea, I wasn't entirely sure if my recipient liked it.

Out of the three entries I submitted to hd_holidays, I'm most satisfied with this one. It's not as empty as Quidditch One-On-One, and more complex than Once Burned. Most importantly, this is the direction I'd like to take for my future comics. Thank you so much for all of you who responded positively on unrequited. I truly, truly appreciated it

[ETA2: Groundless compliant deleted. Apologies.] I think I might want to look for other places for outlet, whether it's another fandom (FMA! Al/Ed ♥♥♥) or original. I guess it's about time for me to be more serious about improving my art skill to professional level.

Have to leave for work now. Looks like another long day of work. *dreads* *sighs* Will fix typos after I got back home tonight. Meanwhile, I urge you to go to the comm and enjoy all the wonderful fics and gorgeous art. They're all high-quality stuff!
