Doctor Who musings (contains fairly mild spoilers)

So, as many of you know, Doctor Who was on tonight. There was a small section near the end that had my emergency-response-aid brain slightly baffled, but I can skip over most of that.  What I am more concerned with is why the Doctor didn't do anything in that particular situation.

Under the cut is a less-cryptic, more-spoilery discussion that offers ( Read more... )

Ha!
I like it. I did wonder why he didn't do compressions though. Or you know, bring out some sort tech to revive Rory (There's gotta be some on the TARDIS, it's got everything else, right? Or is that only when they need to go for a swim?)

So since watching The Almost People I have a theory (it's probably not bunnies).
What if the Doctor wanted to see how the Flesh!Amy would react? Like, if she would be dedicated (that's not the word I want but CLOSE ENOUGH) enough to bother to bring him back.
That's why he's so upset when Rory seems to die- because he basically killed him for an experiment.

My name's Esther. I'm a medical student. It's good to find someone who agrees with the naff portrayal of CPR in the last doctor who episode... especially since Rory said, "you've seen it lots of times in the movies"... I was annoyed that they decided to do exactly what they do in the movies and make it about dramatic effect rather than reality. In an idea situation, you are right, the doctor could have done compressions(a lot more and a lot faster!) and Amy doing 2 breaths to 30 compressions. And they shouldn't have stopped either... you don't just stop after a few cycles! I hope this inspires people to learn first aid properly. I was shocked that "doctor" who was so clueless.

Hi Esther! Yes, I was appalled by the CPR in general. Shouting-at-the-screen levels of appalled. I kind of wrote this as a way of justifying why the Doctor was being so awful, but Amy had no excuse. If the Doctor can't do CPR it might be why he didn't know how the technique worked at all.

I was so annoyed when she stopped, too, especially as Rory's own words were something like "I know you won't give up". CPR can be done for hours, you silly woman!

Sigh... it's kind of sad how we have this idea of CPR from the movies that is totally wrong, because it means people think they know how CPR works and they really don't.

I wondered why the Doctor couldn't leave Rory on life support until he could haul a defibrillator out of the back of the TARDIS closet or something.
