It just works™

One of the many reasons I drink freely of the Apple Kool-aid; the Ipod I got the other day was wonky and I returned it to BigYellowBoxStore. That's a 1st for an Apple Product for me, and I date back to somewhere around '86 w/Apple products (think booting off floppies, programs on another which you stored your files on, all 700K or so of "space ( Read more... )

Because it actually isn't. If you have to do any serious typing, that touch screen isn't going to work well. Also, the screen realestate over time will also become a problem. A netbook is a very portable pc which an ipod just isn't.

As an alternative that fits in your pocket? It's not a bad deal at all. It's an alternative to a netbook with a lower entry price tag for the 8GB model. The cheapest of netbooks keyboards make me crazy, but I'm getting used to thumb typing. Also for those of us who have the where with all to turn a netbook into a Hackintosh but don't feel like jumping thru that kind of install hoops, this solves a lot of problems in an elegant way (portable music, 'net access etc.).

Still, I so want a 17" MacBook Pro... *droolz*

Oh the ipod touch is great. It doesn't work all that great for me because

1. I use the mp3 player largely at the gym and touch screen+bouncing up and down on treadmill or elliptical = fail.

2. I REALLY hate the touch screen typing. Fat fingers+speed=FAIL

So for net at hand, I have my crackberry. For actualy mobile computing (which = work for me), I like the idea of a netbook with ubuntu or some other flavor of linux. However, I must say, the 13" mb pro is tempting.

Each pod has it's own use. lillyflowers September 24 2009, 23:36:46 UTC
Ah, then one of the other iPods is more your speed at the gym. LOVE LOVE my Nano. And FWIW, I have stupid small hands and fingers for an adult, so that must be at least part of the reason I took to it like, well, a fish to water.

It takes some getting used to. Typing with your thumbs is...different. But I can get LJ, FB, and FLickr! By a browser or free web apps. Safari handles 99.6% of the rest. To do more than surf and facebook a (in type a paper); no. But it's a small portable device. If you can get the chance to play, try it in landscape (wide) form.
