I watched the show "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" tonight and I have to say that some people's level of stupidity is actually shocking. The woman on this show was actually so dumb, I sort of feel guilty for laughing. A bigger person would take pity on her poor soul and receive her dimwittedness with a reserved silence. But since I'm not that ( Read more... )

Nah, they were things taught in elementary that still apply today. Except maybe the trapezoid one. But still. You can't honestly tell me that knowing Canada shares the longest border with the US even qualifies as "geography."

Sure thing, I would agree with you if the questions asked on the show hadn't been those that I just said: it's plain to see that they're pretty much general knowledge. If the questions had been more like "what was the name of the father in [insert name of book that you read in grade 3]," then it would be excusable. But what full grown person doesn't know what a millenium is, let alone a decade? I'm sure she's great at her job, but she doesn't have a clue about anything going on in the world around her.

sadly, did flipped back to this show during amtm's commericals. when she used her cheats on the trapezoid question, and she was like "4? only a square has 4 sides" !!!! i mean what about a rectangle. other objects with 4 sides exist.
at first i was tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, like, okay alot of older generations didnt have as many opportunities to go to shcool, than we do today, (but she wasnt that old) or even the public shcool systems in some places of america are awful. or even maybe these 5th graders on the show are from lets say super duper educated private shcool, and such.
but that all went away, on the american border question, cmon, mexico or canada? pretty simple. isnt canada is hte 2nd largest country in the world.

I watched some of that show. The first guy had a masters from UCLA and lasted three whole questions. The border question is MAYBE forgivable for people from the south, but 10 times 200? God help us all...

The other questions I remember were the name of the boat that brought the pilgrims, the first president to be impeached and which month Columbus Day is in. Supposedly 1st and 2nd grade questions. I only knew the answer to one. But I'll never say which one.

If by "10 X 200" you are talking about how many decades in a millennium, I think you mean "2000 divided by 10".

Oh, so if you're talking about how many decades are in A millennium, I guess you mean "1000 divided by 10," right?

One petty comment deserves another.

I tend to think anyone admitting to watching the FOX network doesn't have much room to call people stupid.

It was on GLOBAL, fool. Plus, some people don't have the luxury of a choice of television channels. I pretty much take what I can get.
