Terry Pratchett is dead. This doesn't come as a surprise, since he's been very public about his declining health, but I feel it is worth noting. The first four or five Discworld novels are actually not that great, which I think turns a lot of people off to the series. It took Pratchett a while to find his groove. Having said that, he wrote a sizable number of books that I dearly love and find highly comforting. I appreciated how up-front he was about facing the prospect of death and that he managed to work right up until the end.
