Definitely true that war changes people on all different levels. Even if someone isnt directly connected to the war they can be affected in a huge way... such as a parent or friend of a soldier. And the fact that Mary Anne went from being all bubbly and happy and then turned all intense and such.

Thats all i guess. Merry xmas, see you monday!

Hey Hey Jo!

Ok so in your last sentence it says what Vietnam changes Mark's life too and I never really thought about that. I totally forgot about him, I keep thinking about how it affeceted Mary Anne and how she became a completely different person. So thanks for bringing that too my attention I guess.
Well thats all I have to say. Thanks for bringing the changes in Mark's life to my attention!

JoAnn,

You are not nearly as confused as you indicate. O'Brien plays with readers' sense of reason, forcing us to question everything that we hold true about fiction. Your sense of confusion is understandable and admirable-- see it through and then see what O'Brien has taught you. Keep pushing my dear!

Hope the holidays are going well,
Ms. Ptak
