I didn't take sides, but I would like to point out that much of the reason people took BoB's side was because of some of the things you said and how you carried yourself when you said them.

My problem is that people took sides before I got to say anything.

Understandable, and really, not unexpected. That can happen with delicate situations like this. However, I do not doubt that things would have turned out better had you not retaliated in the manner that you did. While people were certainly inclined to take BoB's side, the fact that you reacted as you did made them even more solidly on his side.
