I was a little taken aback that they didn't ask me to speak about becoming an active member once you are converted, or "Life After Conversion" something like that... We have a REALLY high number of converts in our ward being an inner city branch.
But I have tried for 3 years to be more than this story and to grow into something beautiful in the Gospel. And to be more than just a convert with a fun story.... But I know that if I was asked, then someone will take something from it.
I have a horrible time of saying too many metaphors, that is a byproduct of my debate years in school.
My family has come back to their senses as they see I don't run around casting spells on anyone, and that it wasn't a slap in the face to them for not teaching me the right things for growing up, that they actually gave me my foundation to happiness.
You know, I have been questioning the burning feeling in the pit of my stomach telling me to talk to my friend Jake about the gospel. Finally, after seeing the Joseph Smith movie at Temple Square, I decided that the spirit really was telling me to reach out to this guy (it wasn't just the fact that he is AMAZINGLY beautiful that made me want to get to know him). Well, I finally talked to him casually on Friday night and felt the spirit telling me I was doing the right thing. I have since then questioned my motives again.
This post brought me to tears several times and has truly helped me know that all the promptings are not in vain. I will never serve a mission, but that doesn't mean I can't be one at home.
Thank you so much for befriending me. You are one of the most amazing, genuine people I have ever met. There have been many times when your comments and thoughts have truly made my day and helped me to prioritize my life - the right way.
Dont ever question motives... what could it possibly harm by talking to someone about the gospel? Even if it isn't the right time to hear something like that, they can still have that seed planted and then later on have it bloom.
You can always be a missionary in your home town.... and you can always serve a mission later on in life too!
I loved reading this, it's always wonderful to read other people's conversion stories. I don't remember how I found you two, but I'm so glad that I did.
Mine conversion probably isn't as fun to read, but I did write it on here if you want to take a look. (I wrote this over 5 years ago!) http://jayd.livejournal.com/3365.html

2. Zach is as wise as he is lucky to have you.
3. The Monkey Bars metaphor is an interesting one.
4. Bless your family for realizing that your choice does not make you an outcast devil.
