The Bad

After $1500 in tests, they think it might be cancer, but they won't know for sure unless they do an exploratory surgery to take some biopsies. The best case scenario they say is that it could be a treatable kind, but by treatable, they mean a couple hundred dollars a month in pills and blood tests for her, for at least a year or more. She is 12 years old however, so it is not likely that it would greatly extend her life, and it seems to me it would make her quality of life drastically reduced. I am still discussing with the vet what options there may be for treating her symptoms, rather than what my be the main issue, so that she can perhaps be comfortable and enjoy whatever time she has left.

I say this because after her "non-invasive" procedure on Monday, she was sore and tired and didn't want to be near anyone or eat anything and it made me very sad to see her that way - especially when I had to force feed her pills and food and she hissed and cried and wouldn't come near me. I gave her some aspirin and the next day she was feeling better and was perky and purring and eating again. I don't want her to spend the rest of her life hating me and hiding in closets so she doesn't have to take her pills or go to the vet to get stabbed with more needles.

The vet did give her some special high calorie food which she has been eating - not a lot, but more than before. This has been a very rough week for both of us.
