we're all spoiled

May 18, 2006 22:58

Americans are so spoiled. One of the members of my community complains of having to "penny pinch" with a 60k income (her single mom's). Uhmmmm. Yea. That's higher than the median US income, and her city isn't even as big or popular as Orlando (she claims that her city is "big"). If my mom, with a 12k (poverty-level I believe?) income can pay for ( Read more... )

Wow. That's double both of my parents make together. I wish we made that kind of money, lol. I don't know enough about that person's situation, but although your mom makes 12k and can manage things, my parents make 30k and ... have trouble managing things. I think it's mainly because of debt, but there's also the issue of Social Security where my dad can only work limited hours, so he can't go past a certain ... uh, thing, lol. My parents also apparently have bad luck with banks and phone companies o.O my parents were talking about a refund they got for a cell phone for ... some reason. ::Blinks:: I'm not sure how often that happens to everyone else, but it's not uncommon for us to be ripped off so blatantly, lol ( ... )

I wish we made that much money too! Compared to us, she's filthy rich, but she has to "penny pinch?" Yea, I don't think so ( ... )

I just woke up, so my brain isn't functioning entirely ... I can't really remember what movies, lmao, but I do remember watching Stossel videos in econ? He did this one on welfare or something, I think, and damn, some places are crappy ... though, at the same time, a lot of people were just too lazy to work, those losers!

I KNOW! That's such a stupid idea ::Kicks CDC:: Some women won't have kids, and some won't be able to in the future due to unexpected disease or something, so just assuming that certain women will (almost) always be "pre-pregnant" is stupid. Plus, are they going to find ways to make us stay away from "bad" things for pregnant women? How retarded.

I have no idea what you're talking about in the first paragraph lol.

DAMN THOSE CONSERVATIVES!! ARRR! But yes, basically everybody is pre-pregnant.. Like I said yesterday, if they want to increase prenatal health awareness, they should make it mandatory in health classes or something... but I'm pretty sure that they teach that in health anyway?

Agreed, materialism annoys and pisses me off too, although I am guilty of that every once in a while. I try not to be, but sometimes I just want something really nice so I can show it off or something... I think that's okay sometimes cuz it makes you feel kinda.. special or good I guess you could say? Lol.

It's usually just the person, they're born that way. I believe everyone has a mind that's set to think a certain way at a young age and just worsens when they grow older.
Some people, even when their parents are rich when they're young and are given everything, aren't selfish or spoiled when they're independent. So I don't think much can influence their change in those bad habits of wasteful spending.
And I think it's true that if you're an immigrant, you appreciate things much more than Americans. Americans are selfish and materialistic, and I bet that's how it will always be.

I'm definitely guilty of materialism!! Lol. I can't help it though.. but I'm not superficial about it. I'm not sure if that's the right word but you know what I mean. Yea I love buying something nice every once in a while... like my new bumper sticker! "Sorry for driving so close in front of you"

Yea I think the people who can grow up spoiled but not behave spoiled are great..

I don't think my mom appreciates our luxuries over here. She says they just create more problems and it's more simple in Vietnam. Whatever lady. Lol. But she knows that materials aren't that important in life, and I guess that's what really matters.

I bet so too! With some exceptions.

Hey it's A.J. (Innovators).

I've deleted my Myspace account so this is the only way I can keep contact with you (or anyone else who has an LJ).

Are we still hanging out this month? I should be in Orlando by...Friday.

Hey AJ! Yes we're still doing the Innovators reunion. It's on Friday @ Waterford Lakes. We don't have definite plans, but it'll probably be around 4 to 5 PM so we can watch a movie (probably Casino Royale). We'll go to dinner next and possibly bowling, who knows. Keep in contact.
