and it seems that my grandmother, the last surviving one of my grandparents, is dying of black lung. it could be any time. i am not sure how i feel or what i should do about this. i have seen her once since i was 8, and that was last year

Sorry you're losing your last surviving grandparent. It's such a tough situation. Hopefully you can figure things out.

it bothers me that our relationship was always so bad more than anything else.

it bothers me that my dad calls, asks about my life and family and then tosses in that his mom is dying like it is nothing, says he is really worried, then refuses to mention anything about it again.

it bothers me that i don't really care all that much and certainly not enough to fork over the money to go there.

Don't force yourself to go down there just because you feel like it's what's expected. Only go if you really want to.
