Timing (Good Omens/SGA Xover)

The timeline's messed up. Forgive me.

Title: Timing
Rating: All
Pairing: Pepper/Teyla

"Seems to me like space would be a mighty interesting place to go. It's got aliens, spaceships, and stuff." Adam was speculating airily as they debated the merits of taking a science or maths class as their freshman elective.

"Aliens aren't real," said Wensley. He didn't have his course sheet with him as he had filled his out the day after they'd gotten them that June.

"Yeah, they are," Adam replied, but he wasn't speculating anymore. He spoke in that way that still reminded Pepper of that one summer she could still only half remember in dreams. The tone of voice that told her that yes, aliens really did exist. In that moment, she decided to see them and she filled in the bubble next to the elective science class.

Pepper, who still went by Pepper even as an adult, because when you've got a name like Pippin Galadrial Moonbeam, what else are you going to do, had not expected aliens to look so human. Of course, not all the aliens did. The Asgard were rather classic and the Wraith almost terrifying (but not quite, because somewhere deep Pepper knew she had seen worse-- the sword glinted on the ground. "Don't touch it!"), but the majority of aliens in the Pegasus galaxy were actually quite normally shaped, which was really quite a good thing as Pepper was certain she was falling hard for one.

She blocked Teyla on high, missing a lower swipe that thwapped her against the thigh. "You are not paying attention," Teyla said. Pepper replied by returning the blow. Teyla, of course, blocked.

Pepper had started the bantos fighting in her first year. Dr. McKay had sent her away after she and Kavanagh had gotten into a bit of a spat and told her to find something constructive to do. She had found Teyla still wound up from Bates and so the lessons had begun.

"Good," Teyla said as Pepper laid one stick on Teyla's shoulder. Pepper smiled. If this was a movie, they could have kissed then, she thought, and she stepped back.

"Seems to me," Adam said after Pepper finally told him why she had come to visit him during the hols rather than her family, "that if it makes you happy, then that's all that matters, right? I don't see it being anyone's business but yours if you like kissing girl more than gents. Bit silly to get so worked up over it, in my opinion."

Pepper half-smiled and then sighed. "My mother doesn't agree. Not that she has a problem, of course, but 'think of your grandparents, Pippin!'"

As they were packing up after their sparring, Pepper tried to think of some subtle way of asking Teyla out, of feeling out whether or not she'd be open to a possible relationship. She was still thinking when Teyla finished, which is likely why she almost missed when Teyla spoke.

"My people are having a festival at the end of this week in hope of a good planting and growing season. There will be dancing, sparring, and food. Would you like to accompany me?"

Pepper blinked, and then nodded. "Yes," she said, a crooked grin growing on her face, "I would."

She had what might possibly be a date with a hot alien, a beautiful woman. She wondered what the boys would say to that.

"Cor, Pepper, how do you get all the lookers?" Brian complained a couple nights after they'd gone to a dance club.

Pepper just grinned. "Timing," she said and Brian rolled his eyes.

"Yeah. Right."

Right, she thought again as she dressed for Teyla's festival. Timing, being in the right place in the right moment, was everything.

Thank God, or whoever was in control, that she was in Pegasus.
