Please, people, give me prompts for this.

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in, and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, Regency England, circus AU, Lovecraft, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

Nodame Cantabile in a superhero AU lilyayl March 29 2008, 02:34:27 UTC
Japan is the worst country to be a superhero within. After the Monster Wars and the regulations created during the American occupation after World Wars, the superhero world is very tightly regulated. Every power is documented; every child trained at a special cram school. Teams are created by the government, installed in every major city and rural area, and rotated and changed often to ensure that teams are not compromised by bribes, etc. Breaking into a superhero team is extremely difficult and potentially without reward. Few of the villains focus on Japan anymore and most teams find themselves being sent over to Europe or China to help with issues there or teaching in the cram schools ( ... )

When a famous team leader from Europe comes to the college, Chiaki wants to be his student. The leader has his team do puzzles for display and then abandons the team to work with the official and registered university team, leaving Chiaki with a mixed up group of powers that seem useless in superhero work. Chiaki slowly learns that not ever fire-sculptor/etc has to use their powers in the exact same way and allows his team to display some of their personality in their work ( ... )

Amy paints. Currently she paints old towns and villages in China before they are all swallowed by water. She doesn't swim. Her lover, Lucy, does not understand why Amy seems so terrified of lakes and rivers and oceans, but she does not press. This is the one thing she never presses about ( ... )

Hrm. How about a Neverwhere merge with SGA, maybe?

By merge you mean just sticking the two worlds together, right, and seeing what comes out?

If so, then it all began when Richard bet Door an unspecified favor that she couldn't open a door to the lost continent to Atlantis (hoping of course that she'd try, fail, and owe him) and Door insisting that she could, though no idea why she would what with the water and all.

Or maybe it doesn't start there at all.

Richard did bet Door, but she never took the bet. It was foolishness and a waste of time and talent when they had a world to rebuild and alliances to make. Besides, she had nothing to prove to him.

Everything almost began there, however ( ... )

While many revel in the intricacies and impossibilities of London Below, some people always feel that they belong Above. They trade petty favors, always waiting for their big break, their chance to escape aboveground ( ... )

Circuses seduce people. They project an aura of zeal and forbidden fun. Circuses lie. They pretend that danger isn't real, that hungry lions and high ropes are fun, safe. They are cartoons, dreams, unreal. Monsters wearing monster masks ( ... )
