This is something that happened in college. I started studying a smidge of medical history, not enough to claim I know anything, but enough that I know I enjoy it immensely. I particularly fictional depictions of epidemics (how does it present? who realizes it is happening? how do you id it? how do you help people? how do people react? etc) or archaic medical practices. Trepanning or Trepanation is the act of making a hole in someone's head to let out evil spirits (or let in good spirits) and cure them. The cut out pieces of skull were sometimes used as buttons. I say archaic, but, as with many practices, there are a few limited circumstances even now in which it is done.

Oh I know what it is, i just wanted to know what you'd like to read ;) Uhm as for epidemics, I would recommend you to read The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson, even though well, it's not a fic but...

I'll see what I can do (eventually....I have a story which takes place on an oncology ward but it's secondary about the disease, it's character driven). I like epidemics. I'm a biotype, I can do that ;D Eventually.
I have some bits and pieces on medicine in my Merlin fic, battlefield stuff. I could send you that via email if you'd like? I think it can be read out of context well enough.

Simply just a fic that used trepanation in more than just a passing reference. Perhaps a character is given such a treatment or faced with someone who supports it. I don't know, really. I just know I'd love to read it.

I will check out The Ghost Map.

And I'd love to read the bits on medicine from your Merlin fic. I don't even watch the series, but... yeah. Send'm please. :)
