I don't really have the words to express my feelings adequately tonight after learning that our cherished friend
lorie945 has passed away after her lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.
FRODO_SLASH YAHOO GROUP, Friday, October 25, 2002
Hi. My name's Lorie, I'm new to LOTR fandom though I write in Highlander and Due South as Laura Mason.
I have a very short fic that I'd like to post here eventually, but I'd love to have someone beta read it first. I hope it's ok to ask for that here.
If anyone has time and interest, please let me know off list. Thank you.
Lorie
This was just the beginning. She encouraged so many of us on the Frodo_slash group back in those days, and I'm sure several of us kept plugging away at our writing just because of her support and advice. As the months and years passed---gosh, so many years and where did they go?---Lorie became one of my dearest friends here.
Lorie became known in the interspecies circles for her wonderful AU Combe and Beyond universe stories. I adored those fics as I adored her, and she indulged my crazy Frodo h/c and MPREG fic whims on several occasions. And always with such good humor! That was Lorie for you. She could be a character of the finest sort.
I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet Lorie in person at our first moot in Houston, where I found she was just as warm and wonderful in person as she always had been in cyberspace. She was one of the bravest women I've ever had the pleasure to meet, as well as one of the sweetest and funniest.
Even though I knew, as did we all, that Lorie's death from cancer seemed to be inevitable, the news still came as a shock. I know from my father's passing that knowing it is bound to happen makes it no easier. Lorie will be missed by so many here, and life around here just isn't going to be the same without her.
My heart goes out to her husband, Rich, and to everyone here whose life was touched by Lorie. I miss her already.
I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.
