One time I beta'd a story, and OMG there wasn't one cohesive sentence in the entire thing. I suppose the moral to the story is, your services are needed!

Sometimes M. asks me to edit his very technical economic papers. I have absolutely no idea what any of it means (it's almost like reading another language), but the only thing he messes up on occasion is using "the" unnecessarily at times, which is something that is very difficult for non-native speakers of English. But aside from that? You would absolutely never know. He uses bigger words and spells them better than I do, lol!
*hugs* Thank you, my friend! I did indeed have a lovely birthday, thank you! And yeah, RL interfering with writing... WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???? *sigh* It's not fair.
Good luck with the editing. I'm beta'ing a writer's novel, the second draft this time, and there's the expected typos and stuff (in fact, he instructed everyone not to worry too much about punctuation because it'll go to a copy editor to catch anything we or he and his wife miss), but it's mostly well done, even for a draft. I can't imagine turning over a manuscript that doesn't even have periods to anyone!!
