On what might have been the twenty-fifth day of the journey through the ruined city, Red stumbled over a piece of rubble that came up to her knees and did not get up. Caterina and her traveling companions tried everything they could to make her rise again. Their sealed, silent mouths could not call the redhead's name, even if they knew it, but ( Read more... )

Interesting and creative concept. I'm glad the comments identified your inspiration from the AG dolls. My granddaughter has some.

Thank you! I may have recently bought another AG doll 18 years after the first three. :)

Ahhh. I feel a Collection coming on! Nice! I have 2 original Toni Dolls from my childhood, (1950's) complete with a wardrobe of clothes my mom made for them: Keeping them in the family.

Really neat concept! I like how clearly and quickly you explain the world and how they ended up in doll bodies. Easy to keep moving forward with the story!

Thank you! I'm glad the logic of it came through and that you didn't get bogged down in it.

Ooo--the thing that really got me was the hint or the whiff of the struggle of being a soul no longer in flesh that was wafting in and out of the piece. That was what I found most intriguing in this piece, and the sense of horror at not being able to speak/express that I felt as I was nearing the end--well, that's what you evoked in me.

I'm happy that the tension and frustration of the dolls' situation came across. It's not possible for any of them to truly acclimate to non-human bodies. I thought about having one of the characters in a body with speech capabilities, but I like it better with none of them speaking--it's more desolate when they're all wandering around essentially alone with their own thoughts.

Aw man. To get there only to have Angel's soul detach as well? Oh boy. Talk about a tense situation. I really felt for Caterina here -- there's hope in movement, y'know? If only she can keep moving.

There is hope in movement. Caterina doesn't want to be the leader, and she's been on her own for longer than she'd like--but what else can she do? She'll only detach if she doesn't keep taking baby steps.

Very interesting. Will they find the bodies they seek for?

Thanks! Perhaps they will. I thought about continuing it, but Caterina taking up the mantle of leader seemed like a natural enough ending to me.

Oh, it is a good place to end it. But as always, leaves you wondering, what happened next :).
