I found out on democracynow this afternoon. It's truly frightening. I suppose I'm just anxious for information--real information about what's going on.
Regardless of circumstances, I think that amnesty, forgiveness, and compassion are what Tom would want us to feel.

Regarding the BBC: The Canadian media have done it, too. In the past when they've reported on the situation they'll mention Loney and Sooden, the Canadians, but if they mention Tom it's only in passing.

American media has also been focusing mostly on Tom (when they pick the story up at all).

Canada's been the most balanced about it, but even then.

Sorry I missed the thing tonight. Is it continuing?

Well, actually, the American outlets don't talk much about the Brit or the Canadians, either. I was annoyed to see in the Aljazeera.net article (here) the claim that "It was not immediately clear which of the four hostages, who disappeared on 26 November, was not in the video broadcast on Tuesday by Aljazeera." We just need to keep skipping from source to source to source to get a complete picture of things. Arrgh.

Yeah really, media is concerned with its paying base. Americans, who pay for CNN and whatnot, really aren't going to care as much about Canadians or Brits. At least that's how they see it. Similarly so with Canada and Britain, they care about the people most important to those paying for them. In Britain's case, that's Norman Kember. Gods above . . . I wish the media/journalists were like you hear about in the history books. Daring muckrakers who thumbed their noses at convention and the government in order to bring News to the people. *sigh*
