1. James invites Lily to stay with him for a bit over the Christmas break, and meet his parents. While James' parents are very concerned with his happiness, they don't think Lily is quite deserving of their precious son.
2. It's the end of 7th year and James is being recruited by quidditch teams, but he's unsure if pro Quidditch will conflict with other plans he has after Hogwarts. (marriage, OOTP, etc)
3. James and Sirius run into Lily at a bar over the summer before 7th year. Lily leaves with them and finds herself really enjoying their company but it eventually leads to unresolved sexual tension.
