After leaving Hogwarts, Lily has a job in research under a prominent Muggle-born scholar who is very politically active. This, of course, is rather controversial during a time of war. When the scholar is suddenly missing, Lily is thrown into a whirlwind of emotion, paranoia, and fear.

James has picked up a bad habit for coping with the war. Lily finds out and brings up the subject in an unusual way.
