What would you say is the hardest part about it?

Microbiology is not more difficult to understand than other subjects, but the amount of detail you have to memorize for a test is absurd, and also you learn the material super quick so you don't get a chance for it to sink in. For example, in one class, which was about microbial growth and gene regulation, we learned about dozens of different genes and proteins (in great detail). The "easy" part was understanding what the gene/protein did in the bacterial cell and how it was regulated (that part was usually common sense--if gene ABC breaks down [some nutrient], of course it's not going to be transcribed and translated ( ... )
