You guys might know, I've had problems with my landline. My phone is completely offline and internet likes to spaz out. I shot off an email to Qwest because everything else they told me to do wasn't working. This is their response ( Read more... )

I don't know exactly how'd you go about doing it, but something I heard of fairly recently is something called a dry loop. Which, to my understanding, you can get the internet through a DSL line without needing a phone line. Not all providers do something like that though, so you'd have to ask them about it somehow to see if they do and such.

Hi do I know you? o_0

In anycase, this is all provided through Qwest and they don't like doing special things. Besides they also provide my phonage and that needed to be fixed. It's a one and the same problem.

Ah, customer service/tech support. They are wonderous things.

My dad recently had to switch to cable internet because Qwest refused to admit there was a problem with the phone line, when there undeniably was. Why? Because the DSL signal still went through to the computer. Didn't matter it was about 20x slower than what was being paid for, IT WENT THROUGH NO PROBLEM HERE WE AREN'T FIXING SHIT BUHBYE.

When you stream videos as much as my dad does (he extensively uses Netflix and Hulu, doesn't actually watch TV anymore), getting good connection speed is important. :-P

Soon, when I move, I will have to disconnect from their service anyways seeing as my new place is going to provide internet of it's own accord. I don't think it'll be better but at least I don't have to pay for it.

Yeah, when I end up getting my own place, I will probably end up getting cable internet. It's generally faster, and I do a lot of downloading (only some is... dubious). Only downside is that I have to get some capacity of cable television too, and really, cable television is pretty much completely worthless nowadays.

"We're sorry, you can only cancel your service by sending an email and since your internet is already down I guess you're stuck paying out to end of contract."
